SCHOOLS
The main reason for schools is the same throughout the world. It is the spread of knowledge and the teaching of the new things to the children. But since the situation in all parts of the world has turned in a different direction, there are many differences among schools and especially high schools. I had the opportunity to study on two different types of high schools. On one hand, since I live in Czech Republic, I have studied on the Czech gymnazium, which is a version of the U.S. high school. But on the other hand, I attended Quakertown High School in Pennsylvania four years ago. I was surprised, how many differences were between these two (same level) schools. The first thing I realized, was the difference between the types of students here and in the U.S. What was also surprising, was the different teacher’s behavior towards the students and wider range of after school activities for the U.S. students.
On one hand, the students in Czech Republic, after finishing the basic school, have to choose from many types of high schools available. There are schools for almost anything, for example uciliste, to work on machinery or uciliste for tailors and others. Then there are schools about, for example, the electronics, which prepare the students for further studies on colleges or universities. The Czech school called gymnazium is a type of the high school, which has no specialization. The students there study general basics of knowledge (languages, humanistic classes), to help them to be accepted to the university.
On the other hand, the high schools in the U.S. have no specialization. They are all the same, except some changes in the curriculum and among the taken classes. This reflects a wide spread phenomenon, that the students there do not learn so much as their Czech peers, because they have to keep up with each other. And that phenomenon is on the expense of the harder studies on the universities, where the students choose their branches.
But not only students are different. The teachers are different as well. Because I lived and attended schools in Czech Republic, I was used to the Czech teachers. They were always scary and they spread fear around simply by oral testing in front of the whole class, which many times has been very humiliating. Some of the students did not know much about the asked topic, but the teacher made them stay there for minutes in silence, looking at them, and their sweaty red faces. Can you imagine being in this situation?
But the studying in the States is completely different. There are mostly written tests and the only oral examinations were, for example, projects on a given topic or a discussion about a reading assignment. But I have never met any situation, which would make me feel neither uneasy nor humiliating. The teachers were not so strict as the ones in my country, and I could have talked to them about any problems I have had.
After finishing my classes in my hometown, I used to walk home or go to the pub with my friends. There was hardly anything else to do there. Of course, there were some activities after the school, but these were only the few. Since I am not a football person, I did not wait for it after the school. The only other possibility was basketball, which I sometimes attended.
But on the contrary, after finishing school in Quakertown every day, I had many more possibilities to spend time on. There were tens of sports (football, basketball, running, tennis and others), many drama courses, photography, classes and others. But my beloved one was the pottery class of Mr. Robinson. The range was much wider then in Czech republic. Anyone could have chosen his favorite hobby.
The high schools in Czech Republic and in the U.S. differ in many ways. Not only the students are different, but the teachers as well. They are more strict here and more ‘far’ from the student. The Czech schools are very poor in what they offer in after school activities. The wide range of after school activities in the U.S. was astonishing. If you have bad experiences with the Czech schools, try foreign ones. You might be pleasantly surprised.

TS: The price of the mobile phone communications will fall dramatically in next five years.
Outline:
1) The loss of the Telecom’s monopoly
a) No fixed prices
b) Competition brings lower prices
2) The rise of the Czech economy
a) Rising use of mobile phones
b) Phones more accessible
3) Prices are already lowering
a) Germany is cheap
b) Extra free services
The price of the mobile phone communications will fall dramatically in the next five years. The first thing in this process will be the loss of the TELECOM’s monopoly, which is price fixing. In addition to this will come the competition among the telecommunication companies, which will bring lower prices. Secondly, the rise of the Czech economy is predicted and same as it is the other European countries with the rising economy there is the need for better communication through mobile phones. And that is why the use of mobile phones will rise. This is also related to the rising accessibility of the mobile phones, which will be offered and demanded more often for better communication. They will be used more often and more widely. Finally, there already is a tendency of the prices to go down. For example in Germany the price for a mobile phone call has lowered to some two or three Pfennigs (40 hellers), which is about 0.001% of the average salary (in Czech it is 0,1%). To illustrate this tendency of lowering of the prices in the Czech Republic there is an example in all three mobile phone companies, which give extra free services to customers, such as free voice mail or a
